ACIP may recommend live attenuated influenza vaccine in young children

The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices may vote in June on whether to recommend the live attenuated influenza vaccine over the inactivated influenza formulation as the preferred choice for children ages 2 to 8, following discussion at its February meeting. ACIP also was given data on the potential benefits of a three-dose schedule for pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in infants and voted to reaffirm a recommendation for annual flu shots for everyone beginning at age 6 months.
