Pa. high-school student teaches peers about wars

Areon Metz, a junior at Shaler Area High School in Pennsylvania, has for three years helped teach military history to peers in social studies teacher Jim McDermott's American history class. Metz, whose father and grandfather served in the military, began his interest in elementary school. He accumulated a vast knowledge by studying biographies and historical documents and collecting memorabilia. "I find this to be interesting. You can do extra to expand your knowledge outside of the classroom," said Metz, who aspires to join the military or become a history teacher -- or both.
