Michigan Bill Would Ease Requirements For Substitutes

State Rep. Judson Gilbert has proposed reducing the number of college courses required for uncertified substitute teachers from 90 credit hours to 79 credit hours. Gilbert says the bill would help understaffed schools in rural and urban districts fill vacant classrooms. The Michigan Department of Education says demand for substitutes has nearly tripled in the past seven years.
