Annan: UN needs more support for peacekeeping missions

United Nations efforts in conflict areas are overstretching the world body's capabilities, and no new missions should be undertaken until the world's major powers provide more sustainable support, Kofi Annan told journalists Thursday. Current difficulties in obtaining the necessary equipment and support for the peacekeeping mission in Darfur highlight the problems, the former UN secretary-general said.
