Minnesota shuts down bridge, citing structural concerns

A major bridge over the Mississippi River has been closed by Minnesota officials fearful of a repeat of last summer's Interstate 35 collapse in Minneapolis. Inspectors found bent support plates in the 890-foot-long bridge that normally carries about 31,000 vehicles a day. "The bridge will remain closed until it either can be repaired, or if repairs are not possible, until the bridge can be replaced," said Minnesota's acting Transportation Commissioner Bob McFarlin.
