Earn your spot on a corporate board

CFOs are far less in demand than CEOs for corporate board seats, with only 1.5% of directors for S&P 500 companies coming from their ranks, according to an analysis completed last year. Finance executives who would like to improve their odds should consider enrolling in director-education programs, serving on nonprofit boards and making their interests known to professional contacts, experts say.
