Pediatric experts offer parents advice on helping obese children

Parents often struggle with how to help their overweight or obese children lose weight, and they may resort to ineffective or damaging tactics such as banning certain foods or openly criticizing the child, pediatric experts say. Dr. Daniel Levy, founder of an obesity task force of the Maryland chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, said dieting should involve not just the overweight child but the whole family in order to be effective.
