Program warns students in Hawaii about consequences of failing school

A Hawaii high school is hoping to motivate struggling ninth-grade students by taking them to a local correctional facility and homeless encampment. The visits are part of the Fresh Start pilot program for students at risk of repeating their freshman year. "We want to show them, if you make poor choices, this may be one of your outcomes," said Gale Mehea, a project coordinator for Gear Up, a federal program providing support to Fresh Start.
