Calif. contractor is sentenced for falsifying surety bonds to win contract

A California man who admitted to using fake bonds to secure government contracts for the installation of water meters has been sentenced to five years' probation. The man, who will spend three months in home detention, submitted $5 million worth of fake surety bonds to win nearly $3.5 million worth of contracts. A hearing will be held in May to determine how much the man owes the city of Sacramento, and another person involved in the case is still facing charges.
