Federal construction programs face looming budget cuts

Funds from the federal stimulus are just about gone and the fiscal 2013 federal budget doesn't look too promising for construction projects. "We are very worried," says Jeffrey Shoaf, AGC senior executive director for government affairs. The annual cap on discretionary spending -- the category covering construction projects -- was $1.043 trillion in fiscal 2012, down $7 billion from fiscal 2011. The fiscal 2013 ceiling rises slightly by about $4 billion, but "Republicans are itching for a lower number," said Shoaf.
