House to consider short-term transportation funding extension

House Republicans will pursue a short-term extension of transportation funding before current funding expires on March 31, rather than consider the Senate's two-year, $109 billion transportation bill. The length of the extension will be decided today and "will be up next week, so that we can continue working to finalize the bill," said House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John Mica, R-Fla. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he is inclined not to vote on a short-term extension of transportation funding.
