Study: BMI shifts carry risks for middle-schoolers

It is common for students' BMI to change in middle school, increasing unhealthy risk factors, according to a recent study published in the journal Pediatrics. About 13% of sixth-grade students participating in the HEALTHY study became overweight by eighth grade. Those whose BMI worsened were more likely to exhibit cardiometabolic risk factors, such as blood pressure, lipids and waist circumference.
