Is there room for another gourmet burger concept?

Los Angeles-based Umami Burger plans to make its New York City debut as part of a national expansion this year, betting that an improving economy will bring more consumers willing to spend on upscale burgers in the $10 to $15 range. “These gourmet burger chains hit a certain psychographic -- somebody who is very quality conscious, who is willing to explore and get out of their element," said co-owner Sam Nazarian.
