Cisco acknowledges issues with Type 4 password-security algorithm

Cisco Systems is warning against the use of the Type 4 password-security algorithm used on some of its IOS and IOS XE-based switches, routers and appliances because of a vulnerability discovered by security researchers. The company says it's working on a new password type and advises users to rely on Type 5 password security for now.
