Ethanol industry, oil firms exchange blame over high gasoline prices

Renewable fuel advocates and big oil companies sparred Wednesday over the cause of high gasoline prices despite record-high U.S. oil production. Big Oil asked Congress to repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard, saying it is responsible for the high prices at the pump, but the ethanol industry said Big Oil was only trying to divert attention from skyrocketing prices of gasoline in the market. "The fact is that ethanol sells cheaper than gasoline," said Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Bob Dinneen.
