Hospital finds ICU mobility program leads to better outcomes

Duke Raleigh Hospital's nurse-led early progressive mobility initiative for mechanically ventilated and post-operative ICU patients saved $589,824 in six months, reduced length of stay and did not lead to any cases of pressure ulcers and ventilator-associated pneumonia. ICU neuroscience nurse manager Kristin Merritt said the initiative, which has become a permanent program, changed how nurses structure their day.
