Report: Shale gas boom to drive U.S. manufacturing industry through end of decade

The U.S. manufacturing surge ignited by the shale gas boom is projected to expand chemicals and plastics demand through 2020 and push manufacturing employment up 1% per year until then, according to a report by IHS Global Insight. In the Houston area, chemical manufacturing is expected to see a 2.6% boost in jobs and a 36% increase in income by 2020 over 2012 levels.
