Mobile game revenue to grow at cost to Game Boy

Mobile gaming revenue growth will be strong through 2010, but at a cost to handheld gaming revenue, according to eMarketer analysis. Revenue from mobile gaming will grow by over 300% in the next five years, while revenue for handheld hardware and software both will see negative growth during the same time. The increase in game-capable mobile handsets makes them an alternative to Game Boys and similar platforms for those who wish to carry only one game device. Mobile gaming is also booming at a time when competition in the handheld sector is already fierce, and Microsoft has suggested it may produce a handheld gaming device. Coupled with mobile gaming's proliferation, it is questionable whether there is enough room in the market for another device to compete with the ubiquitous Game Boy and Sony's Playstation Portable (PSP).
