Many companies have strong search engine optimization and strong social-marketing operations -- but unless they find ways to combine the two, they're missing out, writes digital-media consultant Norm Elrod. Artificial divisions between marketing operations are fundamentally inefficient, Elrod argues, and there are natural synergies between search and social that marketers should work to exploit. "Don't delay, because the major players in search and social media are getting better at integrating the two disciplines everyday," he warns.
