Bernanke opposes proposal to strip Fed of small bank oversight

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is taking issue with a Senate proposal that would limit the central bank's oversight of small banks. Bernanke said oversight of small banks helps the Fed understand the overall financial system. Under regulatory reform legislation now in the Senate, the Fed would lose oversight of state-chartered banks with less than $50 billion in assets.
