Acne's effect is more than skin deep, data show

Teen acne can not only lead to permanent scars, it is also associated with depression and low self-esteem, a review of 16 studies shows. "Acne has a huge impact on people's lives," said Dr. Steven Feldman, a study co-author and professor of dermatology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Acne sufferers should see a dermatologist for treatment before physical or emotional scars have a chance to develop, Feldman said.
