China clamps down on unofficial online maps

Beijing has announced a crackdown on unofficial online mapping services, which officials say frequently reveal confidential information or contain inaccuracies. The State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping warned that it would shut down websites hosting unauthorized maps, and would destroy books or other published maps based on unofficial sources.
