Videoconferencing expands the scope of the classroom

Videoconferencing is being used increasingly as a classroom tool to provide opportunities in distance learning, virtual field trips and to connect students with their peers around the world. An arts program called Global Writes uses videoconferencing to have students participate in slam-poetry contests, while the technology enables a group of New York sixth-graders to teach kindergarten students lessons in Mandarin Chinese.
