McDonald's CEO to step down in June, COO named successor

McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner will step down in June, after a 41-year career with the quickservice chain, the company said Wednesday. Skinner will turn over the reins to president and COO Don Thompson, a 22-year employee credited with leading initiatives including the company's national roll-out of higher-end coffee drinks. "Doing what's right for our customers and our business has driven my passion as CEO of McDonald's," Skinner said in a statement. "I'm honored to have served and earned the trust of the Board, our shareholders, franchisees, suppliers and the men and women of this great company."
