Merger isn't necessary to U.S. Airways' success, CEO says

US Airways CEO Doug Parker says that despite the tough economic climate for airlines, the carrier does not need to merge with American Airlines to remain profitable and is exploring a possible merger as a business opportunity. US Airways posted a $111 million net profit last year. "US Airways is doing really well on a stand-alone basis and I'm really happy with the way we're performing," Parker said.
