Testing is under way for SynCardia's artificial heart

A man from Alaska has been discharged from the University of Washington Medical Center more than six weeks after receiving an artificial heart, an experimental portable driver system created by SynCardia. The device, which is being tested at the UW Medical Center and other care facilities, was approved by the FDA in 2004 as a bridge before a heart transplant.
