States consider bills requiring coverage of obesity surgery

Lawmakers in Connecticut are among several around the nation who are considering proposals that would require insurance companies to cover gastric bypass surgery for patients who are obese and have serious health problems. Recipients of the surgery testified in Connecticut to the life-saving health benefits the procedure provided them, but the proposal may stall as lawmakers struggle to define conditions for the surgery.
