Blogger: GLAAD Media Awards should not be limited to mainstream


Author, journalist and documentary filmmaker Gabriel Rotello criticizes the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation for excluding gay TV networks Logo and Here! and print outlets like The Advocate and Out from competing in its GLAAD Media Awards. A GLAAD spokesman defended the practice by saying it helps to encourage mainstream media to include positive gay images in their work, but Rotello, himself a past GLAAD Award recipient for his writing for Newsday, believes LGBT media should also be recognized for such excellence.
