Missouri takes over St. Louis schools

The Missouri Board of Education on Thursday revoked the accreditation of the St. Louis Public Schools, stripped the elected school board of its powers and turned the district's operations over to a businessman with limited educational experience, effective June 15. State officials are seeking fiscal responsibility as well as educational improvement in the district, which failed to meet state standards in graduation rates and test scores.
