Amtrak CEO: High-speed rail offers climate benefits

Amtrak CEO Joseph Boardman told the Northeast Climate Policy Forum that high-speed passenger rail ought to be a key component of any climate-change strategy. Energy-saving bullet trains directly compete with airlines. "The ability of competitive intercity passenger rail service to obviate the need for energy-intensive, short-haul flights such as Boston-New York and New York-Washington is an important climate policy consideration," he said.
