Health care law will pinch midsized companies, experts say

Employers' compliance costs, health insurance premiums and expenses for retired workers' prescription-drug coverage will likely increase as a result of the health reform law, experts say. Companies with 50 to 500 employees are expected to fare the worst because they neither self-insure nor qualify for certain tax breaks. "There is nothing in this bill that is going to hold down health care costs in the short term, and there are some elements that could cause costs to go up," said James Klein of the American Benefits Council.
