FDA OKs outpatient trial for artificial pancreas

The Artificial Pancreas Project, a collaboration among several universities, received FDA approval to conduct outpatient clinical trials in the U.S. for its hand-held device designed to automatically measure blood glucose levels and provide insulin as needed in type 1 diabetes patients. The trial could begin in about six weeks, one researcher said.
