Report: Growth in shale-based manufacturing sector boosts U.S. metro job numbers

U.S. metropolitan economies added more than 196,000 jobs in energy-intensive manufacturing industries from 2010 to 2012, according to a report compiled by IHS Global Insight. "The profusion of available natural gas and oil resulted in a surge in plastic, rubber, resin and chemical manufacturing thanks to lower costs and increased refining volume; as a result these industries saw a combined employment increase of 2.6% across all metropolitan areas," the report said.
