Navy may cut number of aircraft carriers to as few as 10, report says

The Navy's new long-range shipbuilding plan includes shrinking the number of aircraft carriers to as few as 10 ships by 2035, according to a report in the Daily Press. The Navy would also cut plans for the number of submarines to 41 from 58. The reductions would hurt Northrop Grumman's Newport News, Va., branch, which is the nation's only manufacturer of aircraft carriers and one of two submarine builders.
