Converting blood types may improve blood supply

Massachusetts-based ZymeQuest has created a technique to convert any donated blood to type O -- the universal donor. The process involves stripping A and B sugars from the surface of red blood cells. The hope is that conversion will help avoid wasting unused donated blood and increase blood turnover.
