São Paulo no longer playing second fiddle to Rio

São Paulo, the economic powerhouse of Brazil and fifth-largest city in the world, was long thought to be Rio de Janeiro's ugly sister. Times have changed, however, and São Paulo has emerged as a music, design and fashion mecca, making it a hotter destination than Rio for some. Instead of a beach, the city features hip hotels, modernist architecture, top-of-the-line shopping and interesting restaurants.
