World trade to drop 9% this year, WTO predicts

After posting a feeble 2% growth in 2008, world trade is expected to decline by 9% this year, the World Trade Organization reported. Amid the economic crisis, the world faces the additional danger that protectionist measures will "choke off trade as an engine of recovery," said Pascal Lamy, the WTO's secretary-general.
