Insulin pumps give young diabetics better control

Metabolic control is better if young children with Type 1 diabetes are treated early on with an insulin pump, researchers said. Children followed for up to eight years showed significantly lower mean HbA1c levels -- a measure of plasma glucose concentration -- if they used a pump, and all but three study participants taking injections switched to continuous infusions due to elevated HbA1c levels.
