Louisiana should continue to pay NBCT stipends, senator says

The chairman of the Louisiana Senate's Education Committee says the state -- not districts -- should continue to pay for stipends for National Board Certified Teachers. Sen. Ben Nevers says districts cannot afford the stipends, which were authorized by state legislators. However, Gov. Bobby Jindal has supported transferring the burden to districts, saying the state cannot afford to fund the stipends and that districts have enough in reserves to cover the cost.
