Zoo veterinarians have been busy with ill animals. The Palm Beach Zoo's 1-year-old Baird's tapir underwent a series of diagnostic tests last week because he kept falling. In Chicago, the Lincoln Park Zoo's 4-month-old female gorilla is one step closer to rejoining her family after having surgery to repair serious face lacerations likely inflicted by another gorilla. The Houston Zoo's 1-month-old Masai giraffe, Yao Ming, is being treated for a serious bone infection involving two joints. He has already undergone arthroscopic surgery and joint flushing and is receiving antibiotics.
