Measure repealing SGR would cost more than $180B, CBO says

A measure that would roll back and replace Medicare's sustainable growth rate formula while extending some other Medicare initiatives would cost an estimated $180 billion over 10 years, the Congressional Budget Office said. The Senate is not expected to vote on the bill because of a provision postponing the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate. If Congress fails to address the SGR, physician reimbursements under Medicare will be cut by 24% beginning April 1.
