Research undercuts link between saturated fats, heart disease

A new study shows that consuming higher levels of saturated fat was not linked with higher rates of heart disease, and eating more unsaturated fats was not associated with reduced rates of heart disease. The study by Cambridge University researchers, published in Annals of Internal Medicine, did show that consumption of trans fats appeared to be linked to the condition, this article says. "I think future dietary guidelines will put more and more emphasis on real food rather than giving an absolute upper limit or cutoff point for certain macronutrients," said Frank Hu, a professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.
