Canada Upset Over Lumber Tariffs

The U.S. decided March 22 to impose tariffs averaging 29% on Canadian softwood lumber to combat what it says are unfair trading practices. The U.S. has determined that Canada is charging low fees to loggers who harvest on public land. This allows producers to sell their lumber in the U.S. below market price. Canada denies the charges and says the duties will devastate its lumber industry.
