Costco Still Carving Out Niche In Japan

Higher operating costs and finicky Japanese consumers are said to have played a part in Costco's slow rise to profitability. A company official says Costco doesn't expect to be in the black for several more years. The store is working on improving its Japanese food service and is importing more U.S. goods, including clothing, jewelry and housewares.
