Hospitals face pricing dilemma with uninsured patients

With insurance companies paying hospitals as little as 38 cents on the dollar in some areas, hospitals may charge uninsured patients full sticker price. The American Hospital Association sought clarification on whether hospitals were allowed to discount care for uninsured patients, and Health and Human Services secretary Tommy Thompson recently ruled discounts are allowed.
