Bread shortage in Egypt prompts violence

In the latest sign that soaring food prices are shaking poorer countries, at least seven people have died in Egypt in clashes related to a shortage of subsidized bread. People in poor neighborhoods in Cairo have been lining up to buy bread sold at a heavy discount by the state, but violence has erupted as a lack of the food staple has caused waits lasting for hours.
