More heparin recalled in Europe

France, Italy and Denmark have withdrawn batches of the blood thinner heparin and its active ingredient that are tainted or suspected of contamination. Italian drugmaker Opocrin SpA said it received tainted ingredients from China's Shenzhen Hepalink Pharmaceutical Co., which also supplies APP Pharmaceuticals -- now the sole supplier of large-dose heparin for surgery and kidney dialysis in the U.S. An FDA spokeswoman said previous tests of APP's heparin showed no contamination, and APP vowed to screen its active ingredient for contaminants.
