Barter transactions rose an estimated 10% in 2008, reaching $12 billion worldwide, according to one group, as companies scrambled to conserve cash. Restaurant owner Ted Klinger does about $100,000 in barter deals every year, covering services from advertising to snow plowing. If you decide to barter, experts advise looking for a network with a wide variety of members and getting every deal in writing.
