Drugstore.com acquisition will speed up Walgreen's online growth

At first glance it might seem that $429 million is a hefty price for Walgreen to pay to acquire Drugstore.com, but the move makes sense from a competitive aspect, writes John Jannarone. Acquiring the online drugstore that already sells 60,000 products and boasts nearly 4 million monthly visitors is faster than trying to build a similar store in-house, at a time when large rivals including Amazon are rapidly ramping up their sales of non-media offerings.
