Food, drink makers are increasingly taking on recycling responsibility

More food and beverage companies in the U.S. are taking on the cost of recycling their used products, a job traditionally handled by the government. "Local governments are literally going broke and so are looking for ways to shift the costs of recycling off onto someone, and companies that make the packaging are logical candidates," said Jim Hanna of Starbucks. Companies also are seeing value in recycled aluminum and other materials and are increasingly realizing that resources are limited, Hanna said.
